Tattoo Removal

What's new beyond Q-switched and picosecond lasers?

  • A (Dermatologist): Picosecond lasers are superior. They shatter ink into dust particles that macrophages can clear faster. Fewer sessions (3-5 vs. 6-10), less scarring, less pain. But the device costs $150k+ and per-pulse fees are higher.

  • B (Clinician - MedSpa): The real innovation is for stubborn colors. Q-switched handles black and red well. Picosecond with specific wavelengths (730nm, 785nm) is finally effective for green, blue, and purple ink. That used to be untreatable.

  • C (Economist): Margins are excellent. A $500,000 laser pays for itself in 6-8 months in a metropolitan area. It's cash-only, no insurance hassles. But competition is driving prices down—from $500/session to $200/session in some cities.

  • D (Patient): I have a large black tattoo I regret. Three sessions in, it's still clearly visible. Clinics overpromise and underdeliver. Also, the pain is brutal—worse than getting the tattoo. We need better topical anesthetics or cooling devices.
